Ghost Character

 


This is the mood board I made for this character. I wanted the colour green to be the main point for this, because in all the adaptions I have read about, there is a big point of her being green or her outfit being green. 

She is also known in all these stories as a beautiful woman some say she has scars on her face and some believe she looked how she did when she died. I wanted to to include that when I created her. 

                                       

These are some sketches I did for this character I went more with the one on the left as I felt that fit was better suited. 
  

This is a character I decided to do if I had extra time at the end. 

This character is based on a ghost in Thai folklore called Nang Tani. She is a spirit of a banana tree and haunts people who trespass. She is also known for her gentleness and offerings to monks as well as being known for punishing men who have wronged women. 

Her story has multiple adaptations and many people do agree on the basics of her story which is her falling in love with a man in a rival village, when their relationship was discovered she was left to grieve alone and when she died near the banana tree, which lead to people believing her spirit also stayed there. Some also believe her powers are said to lead to harm whilst others get led to protection. 

In Thailand many people also tie colourful cloths and ribbons around the trunk of the banana trees showing locals they believe the tree is inhabited by a ghost or spirit. (Sirinya\'s Thailand Blog, 2023)

I decided to use this ghost as she will help the main character on her journey to find out the truth. The fact she punishes men who have wronged women will lead to a clue to find out who the person is behind it all. 

They will both have a lot to relate to each other about grieving the loss of their partner's for their relationship to be found out. 

This image is my final drawing of her, I decided to use the colour green representing the banana leaf as she is known to be wearing the colour green and to be wearing traditional clothing. 


This was the first idea I had of making her skin green, as in some depictions she is like this. After I did it I felt as if it did not fit the idea I was going for but I did want to keep some things the same like the colours in the clothes. 

After creating all these character concepts I have a small idea of what it would be like in the industry with all the different pipelines. In the industry, I would also not be responsible for every stage of the character creation but I would collaborate with people to do so. 



I did not feel the need to create more silhouettes for this character as the ones I used for my other characters fit her well too so I decided to use them.

These are the thumbnails for both characters. The one with the flower in her hair I tried to have a brighter colour palette and keep her hair up. The other character I wanted to look darker with messy hair and minimal expression. I chose to do this as the one with the flower in her hair has a happier and brighter personality. So I decided to make her use a lighter colour palette and a happier expression. I also chose a wide range of hair styles I went with a hair style that was up and tidy meaning she spends a lot more time on how she looks and her presentation. The other character I chose her to have a darker expression as well as darker colours as she is grieving in this story but before that her personality is cold except towards the other character where her personality is different.  Once she is grieving she starts to shut herself off from the world making that cold and dark personality come back. Colour thumbnails

  This is the character I wanted to have a brighter colour palette and her hair up with a flower in her hair. The colours that the majority of people liked was the orange and pink. I would like to combine both orange and pink, therefore I showed that here and have a darker pink belt with a lighter pink top and orange skirt.  This is the character with the darker colour palette and her hair down. The majority of people liked the 4th one with a slightly lighter top.
